Here is an interesting collection of 10 “value” choices for college direct from Wise Choice. One of the schools happens to be in my own backyeard…literally. Montana State University has surprising credentials and deserves a look if you love education…and the outdoors!
Cornell: The Colleges of Agriculture and Life
Sciences; Human Ecology; and the School of Industrial and Labor
Relations offer lower tuitions than other Colleges within this Ivy
League university.
Catholic University: This school offers
subsidized federal nursing scholarships and loans, as well as many
merit-based scholarships. Institutional employment and off-campus job
opportunities are available to students within the District of
Columbia. University of Pittsburgh: Located in a great “college city,”
the University of Pittsburgh is considered one of the major research
universities of North America, affording students the opportunity to
work in hands-on environments directly with their professors.
Winthrop University: Unusually small (5,000
undergraduate students) and featuring lower-than-average tuition, room
and board for out-of-state students ($28,000) for a public, Division-1
institution, Winthrop also offers a beautiful campus in close proximity
to Charlotte, North Carolina.
University of Florida: A powerhouse in
engineering and business (in addition to athletics), this school
features an ethnically diverse campus. Total annual cost of attendance
is under $17,000 for in-state students, with thousands of their
students receiving merit-based scholarships.
Truman State University: With low-cost public
school tuition for both in- and out-of-state students, TSU provides a
private school feel on its Georgian-style campus. Seventy-three percent
of its 5,500 undergraduates receive merit-based aid, in addition to the
extensive need-based and athletic scholarships that are also available.
University of Texas: This school’s Honors Program
is considered one of the best in the country. The Plan II Honors
Program is a small, Ivy League-type program within the larger
institution, and has produced a large number of Rhodes, Marshall Truman
and Fulbright Scholars.
Montana State University: This school offers
numerous scholarships (up to $15,000 per year) for non-residents of
Montana, including a large number of scholarships for freshmen.
Soka University: Located on hundreds of acres
next to the Pacific Ocean, Soka features a new campus with all-new
facilities. The school features an international focus, providing
healthy financial aid packages to both U.S. and international students.
Students from families with an annual household income of less than
$60,000 may qualify for free tuition.
Seattle University: This university provides
grants and scholarships to 87% of its students to help off-set tuition
costs. With a vibrant, urban campus in downtown Seattle, this
mid-sized, private Jesuit college is committed to “empowering leaders
for a just and humane world.”
